Well i did a review of the Apelord and the Half Dead PDF's which were done by the guys over at One Bad Egg. Listening to it I can see some things I need to work on in my presentations but I think it is a good review overall.

Go give it a listening.

Thanks for the review!

I think the racial power on the Half-Dead isn't too far off-line with abilities like the Tiefling racial power "Infernal Wrath". It could maybe stand a little tweaking, but given the strong other abilities the race brings to bear, I was kind of fine with this one as-is. It's practically more an element of color than anything else.

It was really the only problem I had with them and it was a really minor quible overall. I really like them a lot. I have died 3 times in the game Jeff Griener is running. I have asked if I die again if I can redo the character as a half dead.

One of my complaints with 4e in general is not all racial powers are equally useful. Some are just not equall to the others and I have yet to figure out why that was set up that way. I like the tiefling for flavor for instance, but I don't think I have had a chance to use its power as my tiefling cleric at all. Now the fire resistance made it still worth taking not to mention the story element of a tiefling who is a lawful good cleric of Bahumet.

Have you figured out how they construct the racial powers and figure out who gets what? I would like to think there is a math to it but I have not figured it out.

I have a half-thought-out spreadsheet that I use for figuring that stuff out. Suffice it to say, I wouldn't "price" each racial power the same, and it's usually for distinctly observable reasons. The tiefling racial power is a "1", whereas the dragonborn dragonbreath power is at least a "3". But ultimately it's all just sort of approximated reverse engineering. :)

Yeah that would be about my read on their value difference. Some powers stay useful all the time. The Halfling power for instance and the Dragonborn. The Tiefling is fine for the first couple of levels and then after that it really doesn't do much.

Interestingly my first reaction to the Elven accuracy was to not like it much. I eventually came around and realized its merit. The Halfling power on the other hand, I never had a problem realizing it was cool. Any time a player can say no that doesn't happen is a good power to me.
