The New Doctor is announced

it is a guy named Matt Smith. No, I have never seen him in anything. I find him disappointingly bland in most of the interviews I have seen and Patterson Joseph would have been wildly more interesting, but you never know I guess till you see them actually play the role. Here is a BBC interview posted to youtube.

Check out The Ruby In The Smoke and The Shadow In the North to see him in action -- he plays Jim Taylor, who ends up as part of Sally's team. Rather vapourously pretty, and I'm dubious as to his skill as an actor (though he's supposed to be good on stage.) Curiously enough, they might have to duck and dodge with the final two adaptations of Pullman's books, as Sally is barely part of the fourth, The Tin Princess -- it's pretty much Jim's story.

I downloaded the special where they revealed it and it had some clips of his acting. It seemed a little Doctorish, I'm waiting to see him as the Doctor before making too many judgments, because I had a lot of doubts about Tennant and he became my favorite.

Look at him wave his hands! I love that tic, and while I somehow don't see the Doctor having quite that kind of nervous energy, I think that could contribute to a really interesting transition.

Honestly, I was holding out hope for Patterson Joseph, so I can't not be disappointed by their choice. I'll give the guy a chance, though. We'll see what he does.
