To my many friends who will be at dragon let me apologize and say I will not be. Even running as cheap as I possibly can I would be spending to much so soon after Gencon. I am sorry but I will not make it. Everyone have fun for me and lift a glass for me.

So tonight's Stargate Atlantis was really good. I was truly impressed with the performance of the guy who plays Rodney McKay. They announced today the show was going to end after the current season. They are going to do Stargate Atlantis movies. There is a new show which is going to be called Stargate Universe. I am not sure what I think of that. I know I am actually a fan of Atlantis and will miss those characters a great deal.

Oh and Stargate Universe will be set in a sort of Star Trek Voyager set up. They will be on a ship called Destiny that jumps them somewhere else and the crew will have to make it back. The report I read said there would be at least one familiar character and the rest will be new.

The part I am afraid of the following quote

"This is an opportunity to reinvent this franchise and make it relevant to a new generation," he said. "We really don't want to be more of the same. It's going to build clearly off the existing franchise but with a cast that gives it a younger vibe."

See that does not breed confidence in me. "a younger vibe" is never encouraging. The part that is encouraging is some of the same creative people from Atlantis will be carrying over as producers and the like.

I will say the Stargate TV shows have actually made it up to Star Trek and Bab 5 in my esteem. They have been consistently good for about 9 years now(the first season and half is rough). Both shows are internally consistent for the most part, deals quite often with some great classic sci fi ideas, and actually has some casts that seem to have good chemistry. If you have not in fact made a point of watching Stargate and Stargate Atlantis then you should.

Okay it went up again. grumble.

I am hitting the gym in the morning. That is the first time since getting back from the con. Hopefully that will make a difference.
