http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tiananmen_Square_protests_of_1989 the 20 year anniversary of the crackdown is tomorrow. I remember watching the news of it when I was in school. I remember trying to imagine having that much passion and conviction. I remember it being aware of my cynicism about humanity deepened after the crackdown as we stood by and watched. 20 years is a long time and now China acts like it never happened. That whole episode now reminds me how strong people are. Want kind of man stands in front of a column of tanks? It also reminds me the fragility of principles.
I found out today David Eddings died yesterday. I loved him in high school when I read the Belgeriad. He was not one of the greats of fantasy literature but I enjoyed his books. Much the same way I enjoy star wars movies or the like. I had a gift for fun adventure stories with characters that were fun if not entirely believable. I think I shall have to go through those books again. For bringing me and my friends much enjoyment I say lift a glass to the man. May he rest well.
I love this song.
