Review behind the cut.

I actually had fun watching this movie. I am not saying it is great film or even in the very good category but it wasn't terrible to my experience. I liked the actor doing Sabertooth. He walked the right line to make him interesting to watch. He was much better than the previous version. Hugh Jackman may have posed a bit much but it was clear he loves playing the character and he does a good job of it.

Gambit wasn't annoying which was something I was dreading. He got old in the 90's being flavor of the week. It occured to me watching the actor and listening to the voice he was not going for a cajun accent. He was going for the accent the character had in the old cartoon. This amused me and it was not over played.

If you are a die hard purist or a Deadpool fan then yeah your not going to like this film. Deadpool was always a take him or leave him character for me so I was less offended by him. The problem with Deadpool is he is only interesting to me when a good writer has him. The rest of the time I kind of hate him. Wit is best provided by writers who have some. The rest of the time it is just annoying.

There were many problems here. The convoluted route they took to get Wolvies memory taken was just dumb. Admantium bullets to the brain pan? Really guys? Also the whole we are going to bond this metal to his skeleton and then wipe his mind thing was just a stupid villain move. Yeah lets make someone you know you cant control into an unstoppable killing machine and only afterwards does it occur to you to wipe his mind. dumb. The forced romance at least gets explained. There is a gratuitous killing of a kindly old couple. And my least favorite part was the taking the character of blob and using him for 5 minutes of fat jokes. I get some jokes, they basicly turn someone whose power is to be that large and unmovable and make him a super strong guy who just got depressed and ate alot. It was a distractingly bad bit.

All of that said I like the move. I don't love it and I recognize many may not care for it. I do think it is better than a lot of people are saying. I had fun watching it which is the important part in the end. It was about xmen 3 level. Not great but it did not make me want those hours back either. That is my thoughts anyway.

Honestly I'd pay to see the movie if it was just 90 minutes of Jackman walking around in the costume. Yes, I'm that easy. I'm glad to hear not everyone hated it though. :)

I really enjoyed the movie. But I am known to enjoy a movie that the rest of the world hates.

Total agreement. It was good. Not great. But good. I feel I got my money's worth so no real complaints.

I did not like it as “an X-Men movie”. As a movie where people used mutant powers and stuff blew up, sure. I'm still glad I wasn't the one paying for it. Not even Hugh Jackman as a producer kept, what seemed to me, an enormous amount of crap and ridiculousness out of that film. It's like they printed out some online forums and took some X-Men comics, threw them in a pile and picked at random, discarding whatever didn't seem to work.

MovieBob at The Escapist (where there's Zero Punctuation) did a Trailer Review that I agreed with quite a bit.

And yeah, I'd have to consider myself a fan of Deadpool, even if it's just 51%/49%. The end of the credits almost made up for that butchered story arc. Almost.
