1402 Mongol warrior Tamerlane (who claimed to be a descendant of Genghis Khan) looking to expand his domain, leads a massive force of Tartars and defeats and captures the sultan of the Ottoman Empire at the battle of Angora(now Ankara, Turkey.)


Also on this day in 1969, american astronaught Neil Armstrong, 240,000 miles from Earth, speaks these words to more than a billion people listening at home: "that's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind." A moment later he stepped off the lunar landing module Eagle and became the first human to walk on the surface of the moon.


seriously this is a mile stone in human achievement. The exploration of space may well be one of the most noble pursuits of mankind.
